Having extensively tested the Holosun Advanced Enclosed Micro Sight (AEMS), I’ve gained firsthand experience with its functionality and performance.

It’s designed to compete in a market crowded with established names like EOTech, offering features like the Solar Failsafe, Shake Awake technology, and a versatile Multi-Reticle System.

These headline features promise enhanced efficiency, reliability, and adaptability in various shooting conditions.

The AEMS, as a new entrant, positions itself as a versatile and robust option for rifles, PCCs, and shotguns.

Its square window design is a game-changer, providing an expansive field of view. However, while it impresses with its weight, size, and battery life, it’s not without its shortcomings.

The proprietary mount, for instance, limits flexibility, and its price point might raise eyebrows, especially for those accustomed to Holosun’s more budget-friendly offerings.

The product, overall, met most of my expectations but did fall short in certain aspects like the mount design and price-to-value ratio.

Performance Review of Holosun AEMS

1. Optical Quality

Optical quality is a critical factor in any sight, and the Holosun AEMS brings a lot to the table in this regard.

The sight’s optical clarity is commendable, providing a crisp and clear view through its Multi-Reticle System.

This feature alone sets it apart from many competitors, offering a tangible benefit in practical use.

However, it’s essential to address some of the sight’s drawbacks.

The automatic brightness adjustment, while generally effective, struggles when used with a weapon-mounted light.

This can be a significant drawback in tactical situations where quick adaptability is crucial.

Additionally, the sight’s reliance on a proprietary mount system limits its versatility, a departure from the more universal mounting options available in the market.

This design choice, while not impacting the optical performance directly, does affect overall user experience and convenience.

From a shooter’s perspective, the sight’s performance is solid, but the limitations in mounting options and the Issue with brightness adjustment in specific scenarios are points that can’t be overlooked.

My personal experience reflects a mixed feeling of appreciation for its optical clarity and frustration over its less-than-perfect adaptability.

Score: 7/10

2. Durability and Build Quality

The Holosun AEMS impresses with its robust build quality.

The fully enclosed design and the anodized 7075 aluminum housing provide substantial protection against dust and debris, vital for any shooter operating in diverse environments.

This durability is further enhanced by its IPX8 waterproof rating, allowing it to withstand submersion beyond a meter, a crucial feature for outdoor and tactical use.

In comparison to other market offerings, the AEMS stands out in its class for its ruggedness and reliability.

From a shooter’s perspective, the peace of mind that comes with such a durable optic is invaluable, especially when operating in challenging conditions.

Score: 8/10

3. Weight and Size

The compactness and weight of the Holosun AEMS are standout features.

Weighing just 3.9 ounces, it is significantly lighter than many of its competitors like the EOTech XPS2.

The dimensions of 2.2 inches in length, 1.54 inches in width, and 1.7 inches in height make it a remarkably compact option, suitable for a variety of firearms.

This compactness doesn’t compromise the sight picture, thanks to its efficient square window design which provides a wide field of view.

Its compact size does not hinder its performance, making it an excellent choice for shooters looking for a lightweight yet capable optic.

The reduced weight also contributes to better handling and maneuverability of the firearm, particularly important in dynamic shooting situations or for prolonged use.

From my experience as a shooter, the AEMS adds minimal bulk to the firearm, enhancing comfort without sacrificing the quality of the sight picture.

The balance it strikes between a minimal footprint and functional superiority is noteworthy, although some might find the smaller window size a bit challenging initially.

4. Battery Life

The Holosun AEMS sets a high bar in battery life, boasting up to 50,000 hours on a single CR2032 battery.

This longevity is a significant advantage for shooters who require reliability without constant maintenance.

The inclusion of Holosun’s Shake Awake technology plays a vital role in conserving battery life.

This feature ensures the sight automatically powers down during inactivity and springs back to life upon movement, a practical solution to prevent unnecessary battery drainage.

Comparatively, the AEMS’s battery life surpasses many competitors in the market, making it a standout choice for long-term use.

For a shooter, the extended battery life means fewer worries about the optic dying at a critical moment, especially in situations where replacing the battery isn’t feasible.

From a personal standpoint, the AEMS’s extended battery life, coupled with its solar backup, provides a reassuring sense of reliability and readiness.

It’s a feature that significantly enhances the optic’s appeal for both recreational and professional use.

Score: 9/10

5. Reticle

The Holosun AEMS offers a versatile and efficient reticle system that caters to a wide range of shooting requirements.

The Multi-Reticle System (M.R.S.) allows users to choose between a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or a combination of both.

This flexibility is particularly beneficial for adapting the sight to different shooting scenarios, whether for close-quarters or long-range precision shooting.

In comparison to other optics in the market, the AEMS’s reticle versatility is a strong selling point.

The ability to switch between different reticle types without changing optics is both convenient and cost-effective.

The crispness and clarity of the reticle, even in bright conditions, aid in quick target acquisition and accurate shot placement.

The square window design also offers a wide field of view, allowing for better situational awareness.

Score: 8.5/10

6. Ease of Use

The Holosun AEMS demonstrates commendable ease of use, a vital aspect for any optic in high-pressure scenarios.

Installation is straightforward, attaching securely onto a Picatinny rail with the provided T10 Torx tool.

The operation of the optic is intuitive, with clearly marked and responsive adjustment buttons for brightness settings.

The windage and elevation knobs are easily accessible and provide precise, half MOA adjustments, which is especially useful for dialing in the zero with minimal fuss.

Compared to other optics in the market, the AEMS’s user-friendly design stands out.

The sight’s uncomplicated interface allows for quick adjustments in the field, a crucial factor for dynamic shooting environments.

The only notable downside is the proprietary mount, which limits compatibility and might require additional purchases for use with different firearms.

The straightforward design also ensures that I spend less time fiddling with settings and more on target engagement.

Score: 8/10

7. Price

Pricing is a critical factor in choosing an optic, and the Holosun AEMS sits in a competitive position.

The AEMS combines durability, versatility, and innovative features like Shake Awake and Solar Failsafe, presenting good value for its price.

When compared to other optics in the same category, it holds its own, especially considering the technology and build quality it offers.

However, it’s worth mentioning that the AEMS is more expensive than some of Holosun’s earlier models, which were known for their affordability.

This increase in price might be a consideration for budget-conscious shooters.

While the price is higher than some of its predecessors, the advancements in technology and quality make it a worthwhile purchase.
